How do I know it’s thrush?

6 main symptoms:

  • Itching

  • Swelling

  • Redness

  • Unusual discharge

  • Burning

  • Soreness

Thrush doesn’t usually change the pH level and has no odour, but you might feel pain during sex or urinating.

No Stress!

It may feel uncomfortable, but there’s no need to be scared. Thrush is not an STI or a serious condition and in most cases it can be treated easily and effectively. It is also normal and very common – 3 in 4 women suffer from it at least once during their lifetime and it’s not caused by a lack of hygiene.

Canesten tablet applicator

The pessary should preferably be inserted in the evening, just before bed time, with the use of the applicator. Using it before you go to sleep will have the best effect.

Preparing the applicator:
Step 1: Pull out the plunger until it stops. Remove the pessary from the blister.
Step 2: Squeeze the cup end of the applicator between thumb and index finger to slightly flatten the cup.
Step 3: Place the pessary into the flattened cup end of the applicator.

Inserting the applicator:
Step 4: Carefully insert the end of the applicator containing the pessary as gently and deeply into the vagina as possible. This is best achieved when lying on your back with your knees bent.
Step 5: Hold the applicator in position and slowly push the plunger with the forefinger until it stops. This places the pessary in the vagina.
Step 6: Remove the applicator from the vagina.
Step 7: Thoroughly wash and dry the applicator.

Can men get thrush?

It’s less common than in women, but men can also suffer from thrush symptoms

  • Although it’s not an STI, it can be passed back and forth during sex. Foreskin constriction, a weakened immune system, antibiotics or diabetes may make men more susceptible.
