Rest assured, ringworm has nothing to do with worms of any kind. Ringworm is a common fungal infection caused by fungi called dermatophytes that live on the skin. Ringworm can appear on the skin or scalp.
Ringworm takes it's name from the red scaly patch or bump which over time forms a ring or series of rings on the skin.
It can be passed on through person to person contact as well as contact with infected animals, usually pets or farm animals.
